Atrofall

In Atrofall, you are a survivor in a dying world; the floating islands you call home are losing their magic, slowly crumbling to the ground beneath your feet. You must travel safely to the ground before you fall out of the sky, and every movement counts; the more time you spend moving around on an island, the more likely it’ll fall. Even in your situation, however, there exist deadly creatures, oblivious to the ongoing predicament. Defend yourself against them as you seek your last hope to survive. The choice is yours: descend from the sky willingly, or plummet from it out of your control.

Atrofall is a top-down pixel survival game, where your goal is to travel from the highest point in the world to the lowest, using your map as a guide and your sword to defend yourself from hostile enemies. Moving around and fighting with enemies both compromise the integrity of the current island, and too much damage on it will cause it to fall out of the sky, taking you with it. Your goal is to reach the lowest island without falling off.

Atrofall was a semester-long group project with five people, who took the roles of UI/UX, Producer, Engineer, Designer, and Artist. My main role was to focus on user interface design, though I contributed heavily to the engineer, developer, and producer roles.

The game was made using the Unity Engine, being coded in C#, and Git was used to share the project between team members. The music was made in Beepbox.co and free art assets were sourced from various Itch.io pages.

This project showcases collaboration, facilitation, and time management skills. In addition, it is a clear example of a game that went through the entire game design process, from being brainstormed to prototyped, and then created and tested by others, with their feedback included in the next iteration of development. The game also demonstrates proficiency with programming through Unity, C#, Git, music-making with Beepbox.co, collaboration with peers, and creation of a game with the user in mind.
